#Rebuid Cindy's

Question: How was pescadero affected by the burning down of their central store (Pescadero Country Store)?

It is important to know about this topic because it meant a lot to the people that live in Pescadero. The owners of Cindys worked really hard to protect Cindys, build it, and a lot of people didn't have the chance to know cindys. The burning down of Cindy’s in an electrical fire was devastating to the Pescadero community. This building represented the main source of Pescadero. As researchers we feel we were very young when the store burnt down. We got to experience going to the Country store but our memories are fading.

The country store was big, it had a big backyard, it hosted the Farmers Market and it even had ice cream and was kid friendly. It even had a good selection of produce. The feelings we remember going into the store was that it had everything and it was a happy place. Now with the current businesses available it is less kid-friendly. We feel the community is missing stores that have that variety and offer jobs to the locals.

In the early morning hours of September 18, 2016, fire destroyed the very heart of Pescadero. The Pescadero Country store,  known to the  locals as Cindy’s .This tragedy not only affects the residents of Pescadero but the larger Bay Area population that comes here to enjoy pizza, BBQ and live music.

Data

We created a survey and asked the Pescadero High School Students the following questions:

1. What was your favorite part/ event at Cindy's (Pescadero Country Store)? ¿Cuál fue tu parte/evento favorito en Cindy's (Pescadero Country Store)?

2. How often did you go to the Pescadero county store (cindys)?/¿Con qué frecuencia iba a la tienda del condado de Pescadero (cindys)?

3. When Cindy's (Pescadero country store) burnt down in 2016....How did it affect you personally?/Cuando Cindy's (tienda campestre de Pescadero) se incendió en 2016... ¿Cómo te afectó personalmente?

4. When Cindy's (Pescadero country store) burnt down in 2016....How did it affect the town of Pescadero (In your opinion)? /Cuando Cindy's (tienda campestre de Pescadero) se incendió en 2016... ¿Cómo afectó al pueblo de Pescadero (en su opinión)?

According to our survey not a lot of people respond on the survey but we got enough data, it sounded like a lot people did get to see Cindys, but a few of did not see Cindys, a lot of people liked the ice cream, the pizza, just in general just being there to hang out, but i notice to that a lot of people are forgetting how Cindy's look before the it got burnt down, out of 18 people had gone ½ times a week went to Cindy's, a lot of people that live in Pescadero never actually went to Cindy, on the other hand, people who don't  live in Pescadero went often.

8 out of 18 people were in shock when Cindy's burned down, the other half it didn't affect them because they were young and didn't understand “I went there when I got out of school and when I finished walking with my mom and her friends in the morning. It was like my childhood and I have a lot of memories there. It was kind of sad when I heard that it burnt down” said one student who did our survey. 12 out of 18 people said that the population went down and Pescadero was missing something when it burned down.

# Live like cindys

In conclusion It was our main place to hangout with each other, meet new people from the town. It was just sad it burned down, this meant the other generations did not meet Cindys. This also caused people to not have an opportunity to work there. The whole reason why we did this project was to highlight this place of community where we all could gather and break bread together, we really do hope in the future they rebuild Cindys, so people can get that feeling again of happiness when they would go inside the store, taste the food, see the people together and in general just having fun, we especially think that the owner of the store was devastated of how much money she spent and the good memories she had inside the store, hopefully she still has hope to rebuild her store, we have hope we will see Cindys again.
